Montana Laurasia sent out a shout for James Isaak today. James was playing at the oldest live music venue on the Second Life grid, The Lily Pad. I love this venue with it's cute froggy chairs. And it also has a great texture store.

James Isaak is pure Americana singing blues and folk. With his harmonica and guitar, his sound was an edgier version of the blues or folk genre. I sang along while I listened to his ballads. "My girl, my girl... don't lie to me... tell me where did you sleep last night?"

I remember hearing this song sung by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. Appreciating our roots... our origins will help to understand the more modern music today. All cultures, all societies have the ballad to rely on for preserving stories. James sang about lost love, murder and life itself.

His voice has pathos and purity of emotion. Each soulful vocal nuance almost brought tears to my eyes as each story unfolded. Sad ballads, melancholy songs expressed by a true Americana musical artist. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you, Montana for the heads up!

dj zap hax at electro smog

Lazy Sunday morning with a cup of tea in my hand, the cat on my lap and 100 degrees blazing outside on a gorgeous California day... I just left a fundraising party. I needed a chill pill or at least a little R&R.

Zap Hax sent a shout just in time for his minimal electro tunes. I headed for his club Electro Smog on the New Berlin sim.  

On top of the sim is a collection of buildings and cityscape that fools the viewer into thinking that the community is a corporate one. But, underneath the clean sidewalks and neatly arranged city trees lies the most underground club of them all... Electro Smog.  

This little club adjacent to the railroad tunnel lurks a collection of the best dj's of the electro genre. Stop by for an hour or two to absord the tunes and meet the friends there. Besides, Zap is here and that's all I need.

While moving some art pieces around the land, I came across a piece by Elros Tuominen. This is an artist that I found very early in my explorations in Second Life. His work is colorfully morphing with a nod to the mathematical executions of the digital work. Little squares pulsating to unheard music just captivates the viewer.

I have a beautiful colorful piece in my living space on RiverLand. I have meditation pillows surrounding it so that I can sit and absorb the ever changing shapes and colors. With music streaming, I can sit there and zone out to the mesmerizing piece.

I hadn't seen his work lately, so I opened up his profile to check his gallery picks. Two of the landmarks took me high in the empty sky. Frowning, I realized the places were gone, so I looked for Tubular Gallery in his list of picks.

I headed over to Elros Tuominen's Tubular Gallery just to see his latest creations. I landed in Boxed. Boxes changing positions and colors were greeting me. I touched one and my body was instantly set into a fetal position into the interior of one of the boxes.

With the exotic music playing, the boxes morphing and colors oscillating, my avi stayed in the boxed position during this entire upload and post! LOL! So coooool!

RAFTWET Jewell in Second Life}

Live music in Second Life is a collection of singers, musicians, dj's and performers. I enjoy live music very much both in real life and in SL. Tonight, I was presented with a magnificent performance by Young Zeid aka Xi Yang, a concert violinist. He played at the My Blue Heaven Jazz and Blues club high in the sky surrounded by clouds and delicate scroll work mimicking the woodwork of the violin.

He is a master violinist, not an amateur like me. (Yes, I am a former violinist...) His credentials speak volumes. As a young child, he studied at the Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China. At the tender age of 12, he had over 200 solo performances. At 17, he was the semi finalist at the prestigious Jacques Tibaud International Violin Competition in Paris. And tonight, we were priviledged to hear him play in the comfort of my living room.

I met Flax Cuttita at the first Teknival in Second Life. He, like the rest of us were fans of the hard core or hardstyle trance. I also run into him at DJ Isithedreamaker's club Domina Disco.

Today Flax sent a tp for a new club called Hard Core... hmm, I wonder what kind of music??? LOL! The hard core, or hardstyle trance was beckoning, so I hit that tp so fast! When I got there I commenced to dancing to DJ Steveo Ducrot's cool tunes. Weeeeeee!

Hard Core is a beautifully built club presented by owner, Pawelek Benelli with a nod to technology, spaceships and cyberspace. I just saw the Star Trek movie and this club could be on the hull of the Enterprise. A very big party could happen here since the club is large. I stayed way too long... even after posting the pictures and blog... hardstyle is very addicting. The hard beats get your body moving and it's so hard to stop! Woooot!

wet builders on wetlands

RAFTWET Jewell in Second Life}

My focus lately has been on WETLands as Riverland is nearly done... well, at least, I am not tearing anything apart over there, yet. WETLands was a snowy landscape for the last few months in honor of the snowpack in the Sierra Nevadas. And now, it is back to springtime!

Building is fun for me. Because I built this place with a lot of love, I thought I would put the old Love Sculpture on WETLands, too. I made that Love Sculpture back in 2007, refined it when I met my angel in 2008, placed it on Riverland and now, I rezzed it over WETLands. It looks cool over the water and land at the midnight setting.

The Love Sculpture is appropriate because of my love of Second Life, my love of building, my love of the water and my love of my SL husband and partner. Love is appropriate for my land and everything I build... and looking at this sculpture in the sky reminds me of all the love in my heart.

Kings Rezzable : King Tut Virtual

There is a lot of debate going on recently about education in the virtual world. In Second Life, educators, universities and other learning institutions are using the grid to cut costs and to present information to a world wide audience of potential learners.

Education is big here, but could be a lot larger in scope. I can't believe that some universities in the world are still not here, yet. Why? Is it because of perceived notions? Or is it because of the difficult learning curve?

I just went to a Rezzable sim today to preview the King Tut Virtual. Rezzable artists are well known in SL as premiere builders. This presentation of the boy king is beautiful. Not only is the landscape done as a desert environment, but the Cosmic Gallery is an experience in itself.

Be patient and try to walk everything. On the Cosmic Gallery walkway of baby blue stars, the pathway takes you on a visual display of the tomb's contents. Gorgeous rendering of the images allows you to study the details up close with your camera view.

I took a bunch of pictures of the Cosmic Gallery walk. Most of the photos are on my koinup for raftwet jewell. Take a look at the pics and then use the handy teleporter slurl at the bottom of the post to go check out the King Tut images.

Any student presented with this display will want to learn more about this historical character and how he lived. The King Tut Virtual is a presentation of what Second Life is about... education in the virtual world.
