OK Go - This Too Shall Pass

A good friend, an industrial designer, sent me this little video. I like it very much. It's a kinetic explosion of art, design, engineering and music. And, it's very silly and isn't meant for anything but a visual effect. I would like to build this in the virtual world! Can you imagine the scripting necessary to accomplish something like this machinery? Wow! Let's do it!

Well, it's Friday and the parties have already started. I guess I'll put on my new outfit and start the dancing animations for my avatar. I got a couple of new dances from Ministry of Motion, a great place for dancing animations. I like them, because, the dances look real... like a real person dancing instead of the over-the-top dances more designed for a professional dancer or show girl. Let's get moving... thank god it's Friday! Woot!

A gifted garden has risen at Southern Cross Gardens. A small retail area near the beach has great gifts for this Easter. Check the toys and curios and the cute beanies for your friends.

Then take a walk along the boardwalk over to the gardens and visit the greenhouse. The paddle wheel turns gently, splashing water near the river and rock.

A brick patio is a beautiful place to sit and view the gardens while listening to the old time radio stories. I found dj TheArtfullOne Skytower's name on all the builds; a talented dj and builder.
This is a beautiful place for a date or just a nice spot for anyone looking for a relaxed chill area.

I hung out here for an hour or more just enjoying the place, listening to the stories and meeting people. Kokopu Tavern is also here. An intimate bar perfect for live music and/or club music. Kudos!

Another new live music venue is an intimate club. A small nightclub that offers jazz, live vocalists and musicians in a warm setting.

Loegan Magic is the owner of Speakeasy and he was here tonight keeping a watchful eye on the place. The hostesses at this club are friendly and welcomed everyone as we walked in.

Avatars United

I just joined a cool network that is a conglomeration of all virtual worlds including Second Life. Cool because we can be in there and connect both socially and in business. Avatars United. LOL! yah another spam site, another place to get messages out.

You get the drift. Create a profile, add bio, add photos, add videos (not yet), make friends and create groups. The difference is that it is in my community... where I reside and work. The avatars in Second Life are in there duplicating many of the same interests and groups that they already have in world.

Both my partner and I are there enjoying the friends and groups. We brought THE A LIST! into the network and it's been fun adding new friends to the group. I also started a group on a whim that has had a nice beginning. FOOD! is a group without any pretensions except that we all love food, recipes and tips on making our kitchen prep easier. We also recommend slurls for our favorite food creators on the grid.

There are several applications that make photos and communication easier, too. I am hoping that this beta goes smoothly as I already see problems happening with the group dynamics and photo uploads. With all of us sending suggestions and the creators monitoring our behavior, I am hoping this new network will be THE site for the virtual worlds.

And, besides, I have brought in many of the Lindens onto my friends list there... even former CEO, Phil Linden. OMG! Seriously... and I hope it is actually him behind that profile representation. Hee hee!

The builders at BassLine Island always have wicked builds. Fight Club is a tiny club with a film projector in the living room and popcorn on the table.

Inside, the djs are burning the deck with Drum and Bass beats. Tonight, we stopped off to hear DJ Stickfigure bring it on.

Group Synergy or Amalgamation

Lately, I have been re-reading several favorite books. These are books that make me think, learn and reflect on my present environment. In recent weeks, I have re-read Tennessee William's Glass Menagerie, Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Love in the Time of Cholera, Lauren Weisberger's Devil Wears Prada and currently, David Quammen's Natural Acts.

Glass Menagerie is all about human foibles and reminds me of the validity of each person's perspective on life. Love in the Time of Cholera is a strong reminder of the ageless strength of our passion whether it be physical or only in our hearts and mind. The Devil Wears Prada is a wake-up to anyone who manages people in the capacity of an employer or a group leader. Natural Acts is an examination of natural science and how it applies to our human condition, our humanity.

One of the essays in Quammen's book talks about Amalgamation. His description about jellyfish is as follows: "...the concensus for togetherness came about first, then division of labor, finally morphological specializations that fitted certain of the individuals for certain tasks. Some members of the colony went in to service as gut lining, some as tentacles. This pattern of evolution toward multicellular animals, which has not been uncommon in the origin of species - and which should be understood literally, not metaphorically - has been labeled amalgamation. The principle is as familiar as the print on a dime: e pluribus unum. Many simple lives fused synergistically into one complex life."

The last sentence sums up the concept of grouping here in Second Life and as well as life in general. Together we are stronger than our parts. In joining, we share the synergy of the larger whole. Each part works very hard, but as a group, we work together sharing resources and the colony itself. We are a living multicellular creature growing larger and larger everyday.

As in some termite colonies where the whole is as large as 40-feet high with a pile of sand weighing over 11,750 tons, the termitary or colony is a magnificent stronghold with no end. The colony of parts works daily to provide the best living conditions for the whole.

Xavier and I, Raftwet Jewell work diligently as your leaders of THE A LIST!. We have provided a colony or group in which you have free reign to implement your own vision while adding strength to the group. We have turned to amalgamation... becoming one complex group on the grid despite the waning economy. We will continue to morph and adopt as the colony grows. We learn our lessons from you.
