Philip Linden has been Upgraded!

Philip Linden has a new Look!

Philip Linden has been Upgraded!, originally uploaded by rafeejewell.

On the Second Life blog today, there was an announcement that Philip Linden had a new look.

Today, the new Philip Linden was revealed!

And, boy does he look babe-a-licious!

Second Life resident creator Mars Absent was the winning submission for the new look for Phil's avatar.

Just in time for the opening of the new BURN2 under the reign of our resident dreamer and originator, Philip Linden aka Philip Rosedale. He is the reason why I came to this mad, mad world called Second Life.
Congrats Mars, the dude, looks hawt!

Note: Mars Absent creations can be found at The Abyss and SL Marketplace.

A radio stream started the celebration and then live musicians took over starting with Christov Kohnke, guitarist and singer who sang mostly covers.

Bay City Alliance is the oldest and largest group in Bay City with approximately 200+ members. The community is well connected with a fun sense of humor and seems to welcome all!

Note: Thank you to the Bay City community for their wonderful celebration! (I heard that there was a beautiful home still for sale on the river there! What a wonderful place for an SL'er to live!)

Photos were difficult to take due to the large amount of avatars participating on the sim. Last count was approximately 56+. Apologies for the gray goo pics!

2010 and half the year is almost over. The pace of the grid just marches on...

After all these years, we both have a lot of fun on the grid. Despite the group dynamics, despite the drama on the grid, despite everything... we still enjoy this place called Second Life.

Enjoy this wonderment... this place of imagination and beauty. It is a fine place to find yourself, to discover who you are inside and to share your dreams with the rest of the grid.

I still love it here no matter what comes my way. And, our avatars, raftwet jewell and xavier thiebaud will live forever in our hearts.

Quality Avatars

There has been a phrase going around the grid lately that almost makes me chuckle when I hear it. "Quality Avatar" is a reference to avis who are not only invested in the grid but have dedicated their art, music, creations and places to the rest of us.

SL BOTANICAL GARDENS

They give their time wholeheartedly and expose themselves in a raw fashion to let us glimpse their own souls. Their art, music, creations reflect their passion for the virtual world. What they give is so personal and so freely that many times it brings me to tears.

PARTICLE LAB Demos

I have met many of them. And they have given me so much. They have given me hope that no matter what evil people do here, it will always be over shadowed by the good that the "quality avatars" bring.

Last night, I was honored to be at The Pocket, an original live music venue. What I saw in that gathering was a group of quality avis who I know are quality human beings. They support each other, they plan and bring the best of the grid to us, and they spend their real money here, investing in the grid.

ColeMarie Soleil was wailing an emo-style set of her own music. She is raw and honest in her delivery. I met her many moons ago back in 2007 at an art performance. That gathering of artists was an introduction to the incredible offerings of Second Life. I realized then that the art I loved and participated in real life could be accomplished here.

RAFTWET & XAVIER

What I hope for myself is that I can remember their example and continue to give to this grid, too. Sometimes, and especially, lately, I have almost given up hope that this grid can be a place of sharing and collaboration. Last night made me feel positive again that this is truly a possibility.

RAFTWET Jewell Videos

My wrist is killing me and the thumb feels just as bad. Oh, it's the old carpal tunnel syndrome back to bug me again. Those of you who work on computers know what I mean. Builders in the virtual world, photo junkies, bloggers and video makers suffer the worst. We are always dropping, dragging and cutting and pasting stuff on our desktop. And, that puts a lot of pressure on the wrist and thumb.

Typing doesn't seem to hurt though so I thought I would let you all know that I have been making little videos using all my photos that I have collected these past three years. (I never could figure out the machinima stuff on my hardware system... so I leave that to you experts.) The photos are not quite an animation, but it does feel nice to watch while listening to music, too.

This first attempt shows this past Saturday night, January 16, 2010. We danced at Erotic City and listened to dj Sneaky Krugman, then over to Dance4Life for dj DDirty Adamczyk, then off to live music set for Trav McCullough and Clarice Karu, then to The Musician's Lair for Noma Falta and then back to the outdoor ballroom on WETLands.

... hope you enjoy them! Muaahhh, hugz/kizz to all!

Summer blahs are drawing me to the beach scene. Ocean, sand and surf and a little party on the beach is always a great way to spend a summer day.

I dropped by Sol House Music Lounge over on Gagliano Estate. DJ Rafworx Rhapsody was spinning a chill set of house tunes... a nice way to end the hectic hump day.
