I have many favorite places in Second Life. Some are brilliantly creative and others are simple, elegant and immersive.

Art Box is a favorite. This is a gallery of internationally famous art by well-known artists in our world history. These are the artworks that we most recognize.

Here, you can become part of the art. You can attach props and be a character in the work itself. This is a place that will put a smile on your face.

Art Box is set up so that you can snap great pictures of yourself while you are in the art... in the piece itself. So have fun!

If you go, try to spend at least 2 hours here. There is a lot to see and a lot to try out. And, bring friends. It's a wonderful place to share with those who love art.

Maximillion Kleene as Cyber Warrior in Second Life

Speaking of silly... we're we? LOL! I stopped off at The Herban Pipe club to catch Maximillion Kleene do a live music concert.

Hmm... he was wearing a purple and lime green cyber warrior costume. Explaining that this was an oldie but goodie outfit, he talked about his early days of Second Life.

His concert put a smile on my face as I listened to his tunes. I still remember the first time I heard him waaaay back in 2007. He sounds even better now than ever before! Love ya, Max!

Old friends in Second Life are precious gifts.

I will remember them forever.

Their souls are etched in my heart.

"Old Friends"

old friends,
old friends
sat on their park bench like bookends.
a newspaper blown through the grass
falls on the round toes
of the high shoes
of the old friends.

old friends,
winter companions,
the old men
lost in their overcoats,
waiting for the sun.
the sounds of the city,
sifting through trees,
settle like dust
on the shoulders
of the old friends.

can you imagine us
years from today,
sharing a park bench quietly?
how terribly strange
to be seventy.
old friends,
memory brushes the same years
silently sharing the same fears

a time it was
it was a time
a time of innocence
a time of confidences.

long ago it must be
i have a photograph
preserve your memories
they're all that's left of you

the museum of the globe

The Museum of the Globe

the museum of the globe, originally uploaded by rafeejewell.

I saw him building this a couple of weeks ago over on Japan Resort one night. Boxes. Hundreds of them. Pure white and forming a shape... then, poof he was gone along with the build.

Now, I see it installed on KAZE as The Museum of the Globe representing the colors of humanity.

There were hundreds of pure white boxes forming an egg-shape shell with a platform inside, and a single chair to allow you to sit and read the posters laid out on the floor.

I sat there for a while mesmerized by the simplicity of the build itself. Simple white boxes making a very powerful statement. It is amazing. Thank you Ish Tomsen!

through the eyes of mathematics

Life Art Gallery

through the eyes of mathematics, originally uploaded by rafeejewell.

Right brain meets left brain is one of the reasons I love Second LIfe.
Artists here are also scripters and mathematicians as they apply the tenets of their science to their artwork.

I stumbled upon this gallery the other night during a late night break from building.
You can find it listed in the showcase in search.

Life Art Gallery is an explanation of mathematics applied to the wonders of the building process here in SL. It is a divine place for those of us with a math and science background touring through the magic of building in the virtual metaverse. Check it out! Math and Art! Woot!

happy anniversary bay city!

Bay City Second Anniversary Celebration!

happy anniversary bay city!, originally uploaded by rafeejewell.

Pure fun at the Bay City Second Anniversary Celebration was visible by the avatars participating and their costumes.

A parade of characters and cool vehicles arrived at the Bay City Fairground for the celebration.

A radio stream started the celebration and then live musicians took over starting with Christov Kohnke, guitarist and singer who sang mostly covers.

Then later, Edward Kyomoon, another guitarist, singer from Washington started his set with original tunes.

Bay City Alliance is the oldest and largest group in Bay City with approximately 200+ members. The community is well connected with a fun sense of humor and seems to welcome all!

Note: Thank you to the Bay City community for their wonderful celebration! (I heard that there was a beautiful home still for sale on the river there! What a wonderful place for an SL'er to live!)

Photos were difficult to take due to the large amount of avatars participating on the sim. Last count was approximately 56+. Apologies for the gray goo pics!
